The Bride is always right, even when she is wrong.
This weekend me and my friend JP, Mitch Man Music, a Dallas Wedding DJ, did a wedding reception at the Ashton Hotel in Ft. Worth.
It was a great experience and we had a lot of fun getting their party going.
The most important thing you need to do when DJ’ing is to pay attention to the crowd.
Are they dancing? Why not? What songs are they responding to and which ones make them go back to their seats?
When you have a dancing crowd that is really going crazy, your job as a DJ is to keep the momentum going.
For example, our crowd at this wedding was especially getting down and dirty to Michael Jackson, Rick James, and other dance hits from the 80′s. We had the parents, generation y’ers, and even the kids out getting their groove on.
So, naturally we stayed with the old school dance theme to keep the momentum and energy level high.
Sounds smart right?
Well as everyone was showing off their moves to “Play That Funky Music White Boy,” the bride (who was smokin hot) came over to our DJ booth and gave me the look of death.
“Can you play some more modern songs please.”
Uhhh sure thing Mrs. Jacobs
Next song up we have some modern Top 10 hit on the radio, that I can’t even remember (I dont listen to pop radio much anymore). And guess what? The crowd immediately lost their energy and the dance floor dissipated.
It definitely was the wrong decision, but I guess the most important lesson overall learned from this was you gotta keep bridezilla from destroying Japan. Or is it China?
